Increasing Engagement On Facebook

May 5, 2009

Like the proverbial shoemaker, I tend to get around to setting up some social services for my company later than I really should. I tend to road-test new services on my wine blog or personal accounts before recommending them to clients. And often it’s weeks or months later before I add them here. [singlepic id=1 w=320 h=240 float=center]Case in point is the Facebook page I just published for Acan Media mostly to demonstrate some cool new tools from a company called Involver. Since Facebook is [...]

Please Don’t Send Bacn On Facebook!

May 2, 2009

As I write this post I am preparing to update my woefully out of date list of wineries on Facebook. Since I started this list, I have tried to follow every winery Facebook page so I get a lot of email everyday. And what I mostly see is not pretty; in fact most of it is simply Spam. But since I have opted in to getting these messages, the more correct term would be Bacn. Whatever you call it, a constant stream of messages will [...]

Social Media Is About Conversation

It also acts as an extension of a permission email campaign making things like events very easy to send to friends of the winery. But Facebook also presents a winery with a decision of which type of presence, on a Page or a Group. Both offer similar features so it’s probably best [...]

Now’s The Time To Go Social

January 20, 2009

Like many people, I watched the inauguration of Barack Obama as the 44th President of the United States today. Just before President Obama was sworn in, one of my Facebook friends posted about the new White House website which both surprised and delighted me. Our new President has a blog. Yes, President Obama is continuing the social media innovation he demonstrated in his campaign for the Democratic nomination and then the Presidential election. And it makes sense since he achieved a goal few thought possible [...]

Choosing Social Sites

June 24, 2008

During my seminars in Napa and Sonoma last April I covered a number of social sites but really didn’t make recommendations on which of these wineries should choose for their online activities. In setting up a couple of new clients recently I’ve looked at the long list of sites I’ve used and pared it down to what I think is the right number for wineries to start with: Blog – I like the capabilities of WordPress and install this on client servers as the cornerstone [...]
